ReviewLinux.Com: Xandros 4 Home Edition - Premium Installing is a Breeze!

Introduction:

Xandros 4 Home Edition - Premium was released on June 21 2006 and we were happy to test out its install features in this quick review. This is part 1 of a 2 part review series on Xandros 4 Home edition - Premium. In part 2 we will discuss the Crossover Office features of Xandros 4 Home Edition - Premium. Crossover Office allows native Windows (tm) programs to run in Linux.

Installation:

We have to say that Xandros 4 Home Edition - Premium really excels in it's install procedure. If one chooses to install on a totally cleaned system it takes less than 4 clicks of the mouse and you are up and running. Xandros 4 Home edition - Premium download version ( Visit LinuxCDShop.Ca ) comes with 3 discs. 1 - install 1 - applications 1 - Versora Progression Desktop. In this quick review we will discuss the install and application discs but we will leave the Versora disc for another review. The Versora progression Desktop in a software package that helps users migrate from Linux to Windows.

Installation is a breeze with Xandros 4 Home Edition - Premium. It seems that Xandros has decided to really concentrate on a total replacement for Windows (tm) by making this installation process run very smoothly. As we said above it isnt many clicks of the mouse until you are installing this OS. The images above show just how easy it is. From the boot up screen through to the final click of the mouse to reboot your freshly installed Xandros 4 Home Edition - Premium we at ReviewLinux.Com found this installation to be easy to understand for anyone wanting to make the jump to Linux.

Configuration:

After installing Xandros 4 Home Edition - Premium we rebooted our test machine. Below are the screenshots of the first configuration of Xandros 4 Home Edition - Premium.

The whole configuration process was very easy to understand. Each screenshot above works the user through the whole process. Xandros 4 Home Edition - Premium comes with an application cd that we used to install a wide variety of assorted packages. To install any package into Xandros we used their built-in Xandros Networks. We set the source of the packages to our cdrom drive and inserted the disc. As shown above, immediately the disc was read and up came a menu to allow the user to decide what packages they would need. We choose them all!

Conclusions:

Xandros has worked hard through out the years to achieve a simple to understand and install Linux OS. Personally, I have used Xandros for 2 yrs and currently run Xandros 3.02 Business. It always has just worked. Easy to maintain and very stable. I have never experienced any unstability with Xandros Linux OS.

Xandros 4 Home Edition - Premium has shown me that this OS has proven itself to be the next and greatest Windows (tm) replacement OS out there! The Home Edition has many great applications that are installed by default that would be used by many computer users. In the coming days ReviewLinux.Com will talk about many of these apps and show our readers the ease of even running Windows (tm) programs from within Linux.

ReviewLinux.Com hopes you have enjoyed this quick tour of the new Xandros 4 Home Edition - Premium
