Post Open source census says, free as in beer

Free beer bottles, from FoologsAn analysis of results from Open Logic’s Open Source Census, released at LinuxWorld, shows the chief motive for open source remains free — free as in beer. (Picture from The Foologs.)

Free open source programs for Windows were in half the PCs surveyed, with installations under 500 employees sporting at least 40 packages per machine.

Given that only 2,000 machines have been surveyed, however, these results may not be meaningful. Perl is the most common language? Hsqldb the most common database?

If the results hold up, however, it paints a picture of the open source user community which is mostly take, with little give.

Maybe you can change that
