  1. this is defiantly my favorite mint distro, in fact this works flawlessly on my msi wind u100, 2gig ram, the last distro did not run too well with extra effects enabled, on v10 its on full effects and still runs very snappy, defo better than win 7, even the win 7 starter is slower, thumbs up from me, also the new search feature is awesome. very usable os on a little netbook

  2. @joc69uk32 i mean mint 10

  3. running mint 19 on my thinkpad t42

  4. Ubuntu does not work with my screen and wifi on my laptop but I installed mint 10 and EVERYTHING works out of the box. GO MINT!

    in your other video you mentioned how terminal is hardly ever used. while I do agree, we need to get to the point where the terminal is only used in cases where you want to use it (I.E. windows) because if you have an issue and looks on forms, almost all the fixes require opening the terminal and entering a command. I also think linux needs a universal installer extention such as windows (.exe or .msi for windows) it’s just my personal opinon

    THANK YOU FUCKING MUCH :D DDD

  7. What specs are needed for linux mint 10?

    LINUX MINT ME GUSTO MAS QUE UBUNTU :D

  9. @heaheaheaa
    What.

  10. heaheaheaa says:

    lol my mom is goin to by us an abunta this week im so excited,

  11. Oops. I meant to say the wireless configuration worked well on mint in my laptop. Linux Mint has been good to me since last year, but now I feel like learning Linux from scratch by installing Slackware.

  12. thisweekinlinux says:

    @da006 should be just the same, except that Ubuntu has a newer version available that has a newer kernel. Once Mint 11 comes out, they should be just the same in terms of hardware support.

  13. thisweekinlinux says:

    @da006 sorry to hear that. :/ I’ve noticed quite a few communities have a few individuals that can be abrasive and quick to judge.

  14. thisweekinlinux says:

    @MsPwain This is not a program, this is an operating system. Doesn’t matter what the OS is, it generally installs without a password, because it runs before the OS itself does. If you want to protect your system in that way, you’d have to set up a BIOS/Boot time password, so that you have to type it in before you boot the system, and set your BIOS so that it doesn’t boot from CD/USB.

  15. @da006 Have you tried downloading the windows wireless drivers and configure Ndiswrapper? It worked well for my laptop in mint.

  16. rcmontecalvo says:

    linux mint wallpapers are really pretty.

  17. More hardware features work in Ubuntu by the way.

  18. Just installed Ubuntu 11.04(?) and holy crap… Love it! I know a lot of people don’t like Unity but I think it’s awesome.

  19. I couldn’t get it to work on my laptop. Then I got kicked off of their community because I responded to a douche-bag that was being a total A-hole. UNINSTALL!!!

  20. I definitely do not like, that it is just installing without prompting for password. This will be even MORE insecure than Windows… Windows at least show a popup…

    You can install something random from a web site as an Admin? And no password? Nope for me. This is the wrong direction. No, no, and no.

  21. i’ll give it a try, thanks for the review.

  22. ok thanks, I will try it:)

  23. KrimsonSkies says:

    @jablka yes lighter and for me easier to use overall and smoother feel but thats just me

  24. craigland4 says:

    liunx is good

  25. shadowpetsy says:

    I dont know if any commented this but i think the reason why the menu’s color didnt change is because you had custom colors checked so it used only the blue and white. So… .yeah dont know if it helped so yeah

  26. Linux4UnMe says:

    @chongweixuan96
    BAHHHH BURN HIM AT THE STAKE! :) :D :)

  27. chongweixuan96 says:

    To be honest, unity looks good and it gets basic work done pretty well :)

  28. SorinMihaiMNS says:

    @rrgert4 probably no games really working on that, but everything else will work great. I have a PC with similar specs…it’s old and it sucks, but Linux makes it great.

  29. Linux4UnMe says:

    @rrgert4
    yep. goodluck with it ;)

  30. @Linux4UnMe i installed ubuntu on it.. works fine.. much better than xp :P its amaizing, you didnt even have to install like drivers and shit.. like audio video and network card.. automaticly :D D

  31. Linux4UnMe says:

    @rrgert4
    yes

  32. would it run on a 512MB RAM laptop ?

  33. Linux4UnMe says:

    @andamat
    yeah pretty much agree… mint 12′s gnome 3 extensions will make life alot easier for many…. But after playing with it for a while, I prefer stock Gnome-shell aswell

  34. @Linux4UnMe Regarding the future of MATE, Mint’s adoption is probably just what it needs to survive. The best thing about Mint, IMO, is the diversity of DE and WM choices, and their listening to users input. I think it would be better for them to have a dedicated MATE version (maybe an LMDE’d one?) and stick to MSGE + a decent fallback for the main one. I’d rather have a smaller download and choose my preferred DE before downloading. I’m sure MSGE is a godsend to many, but I prefer stock G-shell

  35. Linux4UnMe says:

    @andamat
    Fair criticism… I guess they want to keep up with newer technologies…. The future of MATE is questionable and they have limited resources… but it’s good that they are “trying” to make Gnome 3 more usable by implementing their own ideas and extensions… and it will only get better. And MATE is included on the DVD anyways so I guess it’s win win ;)

  36. @Linux4UnMe I’m not sure I like what Mint 12 is doing to Gnome 3. I like that they’re exploring and I am intrigued, but after having used Gnome Shell for a while, that bottom panel and especially the Mint menu feel out of place, if not in the way. They’re easy to disable, but then you’re left with the default autohide bottom panel, which is useless when you have the Mint top panel. Maybe they just need more time, but I wonder if they’d be better off focusing all their energy on Mate?

  37. Linux4UnMe says:

    @TheJosephPrice
    This is Mint 11, Mint 12 RC is out now… try that instead… or wait for the final in a few weeks… bit buggy atm ;)

  38. TheJosephPrice says:

    Great review as always man, I will be trying out Mint soon.

  39. @jaibhatia180684
    mint 12 will have a much better gnome 3 experience ;)

  40. @finnbjerke
    not too sure mate

  41. very nice you will find chromium browser in the Ubuntu 11.10. Im having trouble with DRM ebooks in Ubuntu, is mint better with this DRM thing?? thx for at great vid.

  42. HazardousDarkNinja says:

  45. @watchmen218

  46. pat9955yowassup says:

    @Linux4UnMe Yea, read from some source on the net saying that linux mint 12 will be using gnome 3. I’ve personally never used gnome 3, so I’m looking forward to gnome 3 in linux mint 12. Heard the rc will be sometime in Nov.

  47. @MrAlexchu92
    lol i dunno man…. Mint 12 should be interesting though

  48. Linux4UnMe says:

    @Linux4UnMe
    2 versions i hear, gnome 2 and gnome 3

  49. MrAlexchu92 says:

    @Linux4UnMe Ubuntu or Linux Mint?

  50. @rciafardone GNOME 3 is going for modern/new desktop experience… i think it’ll be iron out soon. i like effort they did in Ubuntu 11.10, Except for the “maximize” behavior i like it a lot.

    with that said gnome 3 (and ubuntu unity) still has more room to grow
