    I’ve been testing several KDE distros.. recently Pardus and Netrunner. Those others were pretty cool but I have to say, I am VERY impressed with PCLinuxOS and have made it my daily driver.

  2. I still find Windows 7 more user friendly…

  3. danielsaan1976 says:

    Why do people say “oh it’s designed to be very user friendly”? Seems a little silly! You wouldn’t design a desktop OS to be user unfriendly would you?

  4. alex7drummer1 says:

    which one is better pclinux or ubuntru?

  5. RaamonPaiva says:

    I would like to see a phoronix’s performance test to pclinuxos vs archlinux,

  6. vivaelguapoforever says:

    The only required a good interface like windows.:(

  7. MrDemilord says:

    @MrDemilord

    for gnome choose Ubuntu for kde I recommend pclos

  8. MrDemilord says:

    @prajullas huh?

  9. MrDemilord says:

    @CARSandBIKES9 Texstar is working on the 64bit version.. I think theres a testing version of it

  10. Thanks great review. I’m definitely going to try this. Tbh I’ve never got on too well in the past with kde preferring gnome…..but this looks too good to miss.
    Great reviews, keep them coming.

  11. OfficialKohieArts says:

    Awesommmmmmmmme! I love this distro

  12. NewportCraig says:

    @CARSANDBIKES9 no, there is no PCLOS 64 bit version at the mo (which sucks.)

  13. CARSandBIKES9 says:

    Is there an option between the 32 and 64 bit version? Can’t seem to find this answer anywhere.

  14. factotum218 says:

    In my experience I’ve found PCLINUXOS, like Linux Mint, a very good choice for those that would like a friendly introduction to GNU/Linux while still being productive as a desktop user and not being held up trying to learn to ropes.

    Also, by being a rolling release it relieves a bit of stress from dealing with a complete system update with every new release; something I wish more desktop-based systems would consider as an option.

  15. very poor support from PCLOS

  16. 27 brainless people here

  17. @172096883 Yeah cause is “KDE”

  18. MrDemilord says:

    @172096883
    it is a personal preference, some swear by Gnome some swear by KDE, some swear by enlightenment it all depends on your needs.. I would recommend to distro hop a bit to see which one fits your needs

  19. NathanShx7 says:

    @InfinitelyGalactic
    Thanks but im a newbie and i really need something like mandriva or pclinuxos WITH a software manager..
    and somethimg that will run games on WINE properly …not heavy games, TF2 and such…
    Thank you ! i love your channel !

  20. InfinitelyGalactic says:

    @NathanShx7 Hi, it doesn’t have a Software Center, but it has Synaptic Package Manager. It uses .rpm with apt-get. Mandriva is a better out of the box solution, but PCLinuxOS is better long-term I think.

  21. NathanShx7 says:

    is there a software center like in ubuntu ?
    what kind of packages does this distro uses ?
    Thanks ! :)
    And is Mandriva better than pclinuxos ?

  22. I think the new Mandriva 2011 is way better looking, and already has, as in the past 64bit. Never really liked the “pclinux” icons. They need a refresh!. Actually a standard 4.7 KDE desktop looks nicer by default.

  23. Thegmhackers05 says:

    windows and mac are way better

  24. veronicathecow says:

    @doomatrix
    Hi, thanks for that but I tried the LXDE version but I found PCman a real pain and it is tightly integrated into LXDE so went back KDE which seems to be faster than earlier 4.x versions. Am about to give the 64 test iso an install.

  25. cidepticon says:

    I downloaded and installed it! Loved it! Downloaded MiniMe, and loved it more! Now waiting for the 64-bit version =D

  26. PCGamerNET says:

  27. telemetry9 says:

    pc linux gnome looks very smart.

  28. MrDemilord says:

    @RangerDK21

    ???? No RPM? it is a RPM distro based on mandriva…
    Small repository? It has 12.000 packages in there..

  29. MrDemilord says:

    @akirafactor Mandriva

  30. HogRider357 says:

    Thanks for this review. Very helpful. I have been looking through Linux Distros for a 3 year old laptop, and this one might be just perfect!

  31. twiztidsidfreak13 says:

    I really like 2010 gnom! Everything just works from the start. No having to install drivers or flash like unbun.

  32. i’m using bleach in Linux Mint and its great :) also running the live cd with enlightment DE form PCLinuxOS and its growing on me :D . when ever i wanna try a distro i always check if you did a review on it :D great work

  33. gmanprime500 says:

    PClinuxOS is actually independent not based on mandriva

  34. akirafactor says:

    @phorneker You have got to be kidding me. Their repo is full of a bunch of stale packages. Want new hardware support, compile a kernel and pull in ALSA yourself. That and every once in while the update of death. Also packages which work fine in other distros, but have bugs in PCLinuxOS.

    That and also installed OpenSuse over PCLOS on a 3GHz P4 and the machine was so much faster I couldn’t even believe my eyes. CPU load dropped about 30% or more. Load dropped 40% on a thinkpad.

  35. I have tried many distros. I am new in linux. And my favorite is Linux Mint Debian, but i have to say that PCLinuxOS is the best “out of the box” or ready to use distro. It is better that Ubuntu because Ubuntu looks so ugly just after being installed, you need to installa so many things in Ubuntu after installation. But PCLinuxOs looks so nice and has so many aplication, also the installation process and the grub is better in PCLinuxOS. try it, u wont regret

  36. @thisweekinlinux I see thanks good channel

  37. thisweekinlinux says:

    @Ograws depends on your preference. There are more things driver-wise done for you out of the box, and I’ve heard a lot of people praise PCLOS’s implementation of KDE as being one of the best, but the repositories are a bit smaller than Ubuntu’s.

  38. Is this better than Ubuntu?

  39. RangerDK21 says:

    NEVER INSTALL PCLINUXOS, IT”S A SUCKY DISTRIBUTIVE
    NO RPM, NO DEB support

    SMALL REPOSITORY!

  40. akirafactor says:

    If your skin is crusty and your house is musty, then PCLinuxOS is for you.
    If your mind is weak and your outlook bleak, then PCLinuxOS is for you.
    If your old and your computer will fold, then PCLinuxOS is for you.

    I always wondered what it would look like if all the residents of a resthome got together and made their own linux distro. Now we know… that its ugly and smells like mothballs.

    System Requirements include must be senile and 85 years old to install PCLinuxOS.

  42. akirafactor says:

    @phorneker Oh, PCLinuxOS invented linux, really. Rebranded Mandriva Tools.

    If your vision is weak and mind cloudy, then PCLinuxOS is for you.
    If your retired and old and computer will fold, then PCLinuxOS is for you.
    If your skin is crusty and your house is musty, then PCLinuxOS is for you.

  43. @akirafactor PCLinuxOS is NOT a knock off of any distribution. It is currently an independently developed distribution with a single repository that is kept up to date.

  44. thisweekinlinux says:

    @premamotion awesome! I’ve heard quite a few people who are really happy PCLOS users. I really look forward to trying out the 64-bit version when it’s available.

  45. premamotion says:

    Thank you so much for your review!

    I was a distro hopper for two years, I used Ubuntu, Fedora, Gentoo, etc etc etc… almost all the well-known distros… PCLOS and openSUSE are the best out there for me! PCLOS is fast, reliable, stable, unlike Ubuntu and Ubuntu derivated distros.

  46. @thisweekinlinux
    LOL thanks now i just feel stupid XD haha ..
    Great now to do my last tweaks :)

  47. thisweekinlinux says:

    @sale666 This might work: userbase.kde.org/images.userbase/3/30/Plasma_howto-panel-remove-45.gif

  48. @thisweekinlinux
    I downloaded KDE its my first time and iv been using linux for like 2 years and never tryed KDE lol… i prefer gnome the geek look lol :D so im quite unsure how to delete it! if i hide it it will pop up if i mouse over it right?

  49. thisweekinlinux says:

    @sale666 yeah, Gnome/KDE, at the end of the day, look pretty similar across most distros. Glad to hear your video card is working well with PCLOS.

    Are you on the Gnome version of it? You should be able to just right click and “Delete Panel” if that’s the case.
    If you’re on KDE, you might just have to hide the panel.

  50. @thisweekinlinux
    i thought it had something to do with ubuntu since it does look like it but i guess kde and gnome make that similar look to ubuntu! However i tested it on my notebook that i had problems with video since its ATI xpress 200m and ubuntu was making a hell lot of trouble but pclinuxos works flawless! Its great but i cant manage to remove the bottom panel i would like to use docky any idea how to do it? thanks!
