Samsung Galaxy S4 Deals. Price Comparison: AT&T $168 Amazon, Verizon $179.99 Target

samsung_galaxy_s4Looking to get your hands on the hottest smartphone on the market?  We have aggregated all the top vendors for the Samsung Galaxy S4.  See table below for the latest price.

We found five carriers that offer service on for the Galaxy S4.  Although, there are rumors of other carriers offering the service, we could not find the device offered directly on their websites.

If you choose not to upgrade directly from the carriers, you might be able to score a better deal from third party vendors.

  • For AT&T service, you should check out Amazon for $ 168.
  • Verizon Wireless customers can upgrade for $ 20 less than its flagship store for $ 179 at Target Mobile.  Verizon is currently taking preorders on the phone, it has not yet officially released the phone.  The shipping date is May 30th.
  • Sprint is going all out, offering service at just about any big name stores, ranging from $ 149.99 to $ 249.99.  Keep in mind, the $ 149.99 price includes the $ 100 discount applied to customers switching service from another carrier.  Consider it a customer acquisition cost to Sprint.  For current customers, the best deal for Sprint can be found at Target.
  • T-Mobile is offering the Galaxy S4 for $ 149.99, but the price is essentially a down payment, user is expected to fork over additional $ 20 a month for 24 months.  The pricing is not the traditional plans you have seen.  If you want to find out more about T-Mobile’s new phone plan, Maggie from CNET can explain for you here.
  • We have not seen U.S. Cellular offering the phone at third party stores, but they do offer on their site for the standard $ 199.99 price.

Amazon reportedly developing video streaming top-box

Amazon top-box

Amazon is reportedly working on a video streaming top-box, which will allow people to stream videos straight from the Internet. This comes from Bloomberg Businessweek sources, who detail it will land this fall.

Currently Amazon Prime has a video streaming service, allowing users to view different movies and TV programs for a monthly fee. The retail giant may see this as the next step in video streaming and will allow them to compete in another market.

The Competition

Right now, Apple TV, Roku and Xbox compete in this area alongside a few other competitors. Apple TV has done quite well, but with Xbox’s other features, it has a lot more users.

Amazon works more on media than hardware and software, unlike Google, it does not work on a different services and employs different companies to work on Maps and Search.

As a video streaming top-box would be all about media, Amazon can use its grasp to pull in some great content providers, including their own.

This move may allow content to be pushed to Amazon’s services, against its biggest competitor Netflix. The company has not gained a huge amount of traction or original content in the US, as Netflix has.

Big Investments In Media

Amazon does have an excellent channel to get buyers though, with the e-commerce site still being one of the most viewed websites in the world.

The company is committed to entertainment and media as well, splashing out millions on licensing and they are currently working on their own content.

In the next few years we will see Amazon and Netflix go head to head for subscribers and content.

Netflix is slowly pulling away from this model though, with the quarterly report showing how well House of Cards, a Netflix exclusive, did on the service.

Amazon has had good hardware development too, we just hope they have a nice user interface and try to market it like they did the Kindle Fire.

Amazon is reportedly developing an Apple TV rival

Amazon is reportedly developing an Apple TV rival
Amazon is getting ready to make its biggest push yet into consumers’ living rooms. Unnamed sources have told Bloomberg Businessweek that Amazon is planning to release a set-top box that “will plug into TVs and give users access to Amazon’s expanding video offerings” including “its a la carte Video on Demand store, which features newer films and TV shows, and its Instant Video service, which is free for subscribers to the Amazon Prime two-day shipping package.” Businessweek’s sources say that Amazon is building its own dedicated set-top box to draw more traffic to its own content offerings since Amazon is just one of many video streaming apps available on consoles such as the Xbox and Sony’s PlayStation. However, Businessweek’s sources say that the set-top box will “likely” offer access to competing streaming apps such as Netflix and Hulu even though it will be primarily centered around Amazon’s video services.

Amazon under fire for allegedly hiring neo-Nazi-linked security firm to guard warehouses

Amazon Criticism Neo-Nazis
The last thing Amazon (AMZN) CEO Jeff Bezos probably wanted to read this week was that his company had allegedly hired a security firm to guard its warehouses in Germany that just happens to be linked to neo-Nazis. Per the International Business Times, a documentary that aired on German TV channel ARD this week accused Amazon of hiring HESS, a security company that has alleged ties to neo-Nazi groups and that shares a name with Rudolf Hess, who served as Hitler’s deputy in the Nazi party. According to the International Business Times, “the documentary showed the guards invading and searching [warehouse workers'] bedrooms and kitchens, and telling the workers that they were mandated to ‘keep order’ in their homes.” Amazon, for its part, denies that it hired HESS and says that it is “currently examining the allegations concerning the behavior of security guards and will take the appropriate measures immediately” and that it does “not tolerate discrimination or intimidation.”

Amazon Coins coming in May to fuel Kindle Fire purchases

Amazon CoinsAmazon today announced it'll use its own "Amazon Coins" as a virtual currency for purchasing apps and in-app purchases on the Kindle Fire. The currency system will debut in May, and Amazon says it'll give customers "tens of millions of dollars' worth of free Amazon Coins" to jump-start the economy. (Insert stimulus package jokes/groans here.)

One Amazon Coin is worth 1 cent. They'll only be available to U.S. customers at launch, and they can't be used for subscriptions.

The usual rules apply, Amazon says, in that developers will still get 70 percent of the revenue when users make a purchase with Amazon Coins. There's a small catch, however — developers need to have their apps submitted and approved in the Amazon Appstore by April 25 to be ready for Amazon Coins at launch.
