Review: DreamLinux 5 on USB

One thing that I like about the live desktop of DreamLinux is that there is an installation guide on it. When you click on the icon, it will open Chromium browser and direct to the installation guide of DreamLinux. You dont need internet connection to view the guide since it is stored in the ISO image. And this is a very helpful feature since the installer of DreamLinux is different from that of other distros.

DreamLinux 5 review

When there are a lot of Linux distros around, most distros are unfortunately very similar in features to each other. However, DreamLinux is quite special, this Debian-based distro is one of the few distros that use Xcfe as the desktop environment and it also has a very unique set of preinstalled applications.

Video Review: DreamLinuix 5.0 Really Dreamy?

DreamLinux 5.0 was released on January 1 2012.

100% Debian ‘Testing’ compatibility; minimalist desktop with the most recent stylized Xfce 4.8 full of new custom features; safe updates through dist-upgrade; powerful modern installer which allows for an easy and swift installation in less than 5 minutes; exclusive boot system which makes for a quick initialization – can be installed from a DVD media or any Flash memory, VFAT-formatted device; Ruby, Lua, Vala, C, C++, Python and Perl programming environments, plus common development libraries already in place for immediate use

Installing DreamLinux 5.0 was very easy and took only a matter of minutes on my test VM.  It didn’t have the same look as other Linux Distributions in the install method but it was easy and successful.

Review: DreamLinux 5

Then, there’s Dreamlinux. The last time I tried it, Dedoimedo was still having just a few hundred visits a day, I believed splitting articles into many parts to garner more clicks was a good thing to do, IPv6 was going to run out soon, and it was my first really proper review that I can recall. And yes, Dreamlinux showed some real promise. Fast-forward to now, it hasn’t quite made it big, as the development has been rather slow, but I still remember the good feeling of testing and using it. Can Dreamlinux make me not hate Xfce?

Review: DreamLinux 3.5

I got interested in the new release of Dream Linux (3.5) because it is supposed to make it easy to create your own customised ISO boot image. I thought that if I could get it set up and configured on the HP 2133, and then make an ISO of that, that would be really useful.

Of course, the first step is to get it installed. I downloaded the LiveCD, which is their Xfce-based desktop. For some reason they can’t fit their Gnome release on a CD, and I didn’t feel like fooling around with downloading and burning a DVD just to see if it was going to work – especially because, based on my experience until now with the 2133, I wasn’t terribly optimistic that it would work.

Review: DreamLinux 3.0

Just when you thought it was safe to come out from behind that rock I’m back with a long awaited review. It’s true to say the pace here has slowed in the last month or two but I’m getting back at it now and I’m even contemplating another distro tour, this time on my Dell m1330 laptop. Today’s victim… sorry guest is the Brazilian distribution Dream Linux 3.0, a Debian-based distro I’d heard quite a bit about but never actually used. After a while out of the game would I still remember how to do this? Well, I’ll leave that up to you to judge but here’s how I got on…

Test Drive: Dreamlinux 3.0

I know many of you dream of a Linux distribution that combines Mac OS X’s looks with Linux’s power. Now, that dream becomes reality with Dreamlinux, a distribution that has under the hood Debian components and pleases the eye of the user with Mac-ish eye candy. Dreamlinux is a Brazilian distribution that can boot directly into XFCE or GNOME, depending on the user’s preferences.
