BB10 OS updated – battery issue fixed

Happy with your Blackberry Z10? Now, you have got one more reason to cheer about your new phone. Blackberry has officially released an update (10.0.10.85) for its recently released BB10 OS.

bb10 os

The company’s senior product manager, Michael Clewley said that the company was eagerly listening to their valued customers since the phone’s launch last month and this update will cater to the various shortfalls of the OS. They have included more than 60 battery saving improvements in this update which should be good news for heavy Z10 users who were facing severe battery draining problem as they will now see longer charge cycles.

“It’s almost been a month since we officially unveiled the new BlackBerry 10 smartphones and many of you already have a BlackBerry Z10 in hand,” Michael Clewley wrote in a blog post. “You’ve been using it for weeks, and we’ve been listening to your feedback.”

Another main focus of the update is the improvement in the working of third party apps with the possibility of some new app releases like Whatsapp. The third party app improvements will allow developers build fast and smooth apps. It also contains some fixes for Gmail calendars and a few tweaks for the Blackberry Hub’s call log and conversation handling feature. Also, users will find it easy to import contact from other online sources after this update.

The update also fixes the issue with laggy online video playback. It will improve the way BB10 OS handles online video playback giving users a fantastic video viewing experience.

The 8 MP camera of the device has also improved to a great extent. After this update, the device will be able to capture better low light images with its new Time Shift Camera feature. Blackberry’s official blog post further adds “You’ll love the difference this makes for photos where you don’t use a flash — like the Time Shift Camera feature,”

So, if you are looking forward to the update, which you should be, make sure that you click on the update notification. Well, if you didn’t get a notification, you can check it manually from settings > software updates> check for updates. The new update will be available and you can install it on your device using your data or WiFi connection.

Google Play Books updated; Now available in India and ‘over 90′ issues fixed

Google Play Books

Google tossed out an update to Google Play Books this evening, making it a whole lot better by fixing "over 90" issues, allowing users in India to be able to install and use the app, and finally tossing in some UI improvements. While they don't go into any detail about the 90 issues that were addressed they do tell us that they added a drop-down menu in the library to filter books by type, and now place names are identified on the current page when the controls are up and showing. Of course, support for India and the growing smart phone user base there is huge, and long overdue.

What wasn't addressed is the lack of the ability to import your own DRM-free books. Until that happens this is one I'll hide in my app drawer, no matter how great the app is. Hit Google Play to update or click the Google Play link above.

Thanks, Anshi!
