Rise of the Ravager released, Interview and Free Keys!
Rise of the Ravager offers classic arcade action reminiscent of a fast action Missile Command while players blast descending waves of coloured enemies that can only be annihilated by a matching colour bullet (in a similar fashion to Guitar Hero or Ikaruga). Seek the favour of the Old Ones to prevent an ancient god’s avatar from rising, signalling the End of Times.

Interview with the openSUSE derivative FuSE Linux Team: Working upstream is extremely important
openSUSE is one of the few very few ‘original’ GNU/Linux distributions which are driving some of the core developments in the free software world, whether it be the kernel or office suite like LibreOffice. openSUSE also offers one of the most polished GNU/Linux experience. So when a team of developers decided to create an openSUSE derivative, tentatively called FuSE Linux, curiosity rose what value will they add to the already awesome distribution? I reached out to the team with a set of questions. Here is the interview with Mark “Kigurame Gallifrey” van Tinteren and the FuSE team.

Creating beautiful and functional Android apps: an interview with Stitcher Radio’s Tyler Pearson

Stitcher Radio, one of the most popular news, radio and podcast apps on Android recently underwent a complete redesign. Lead Android developer at Stitcher, Tyler Pearson, was kind enough to take some time out of his day after the launch of the new app to talk to us. We had a chance to (virtually) sit down and talk to Tyler about their newly redesigned Android app, Google design guidelines and the state of the Android ecosystem.
Stick around after the break and see what he had to say.

The Engadget Interview: Richard Collins, head of Ubuntu mobile products
Don’t ask, don’t get. That’s why we rang up Canonical and requested an early build of Ubuntu for the Galaxy Nexus. (Politely declined.) Next, we asked if maybe the company could speed up development of its dual OS solution for Android, since we’re really looking forward to it. (Funny looks.) Finally, we wondered if there was any possibility of dropping by the London HQ and interviewing someone in charge. (“Come on over!”) We promptly found ourselves sitting across a desk from Richard Collins, who left the Symbian Foundation 18 months ago to work at Canonical, and who has a very firm grasp of how Ubuntu is going to be hauled into the mobile era. He explains everything after the break, so if you have a big OS-shaped gap in your belly, or if you’re just intrigued to hear the proposition of a new player, read on.

Interview with Jenn Karson, co-founder of Vermont Makers

SparkFun’s Department of Education engages in educational outreach all over the country, and we’re always impressed and excited when we run into people and organizations as enthusiastic about electronics as we are. Over the past few years we’ve met a lot of people involved in the maker movement on the east coast, and Vermont continues to stand out as a state invested in furthering STEAM and electronics education in new ways. (In fact, Vermont’s Department of Education recently instituted a grant structure that will give SparkFun Inventor Kits to Career and Technical Education Centers around the state to provide preliminary Arduino training for FIRST Robotics teams!)
One of our friends in Vermont is Jenn Karson, who is on the forefront of the maker and open source movements there, and has worked with SparkFun on several educational endeavors, including the Champlain Mini Maker Faire. We recently caught up with her to talk about her experiences.

Women in computing: An interview with Leslie Hawthorn on the Grace Hopper Conference

I sat down with Leslie Hawthorn, Community Manager at Red Hat, and chatted with her about the 2012 Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing conference that was held in Baltimore, Maryland this year. She confided that the theme, Are we there yet?, is a reference to the idea that while women have made many strides for equality in terms of equal pay, equal work, and so on, the group still feels like women in tech have a long way to go.
The idea behind the Grace Hopper conference is to provide a gathering place for women in technology to be able to network, knowledge share, and enhance their technical skill sets; with the general conclusion being that we are going to get there, through mutual support and collaboration.
Interview: Zanata, an open source translation platform

Zanata is an open source translation platform written in Java that offers translation memory, an online translation editor, and workflow integration with REST APIs and command-line tools. For translators, it is a web browser-based translation environment where previous translations provide context for their work. For software developers, it’s an integration tool that provides a centralized localization repository along with translation tools that save time and resources.
Product Manager, Runa Bhattacharjee and Lead Developer, Sean Flanigan, have more to say in this interview.
