Distro Astro Is a Stunning Star Voyager

The Linux desktop offers distributions for many diverse interests and specialties. Distro Astro is for astronomy enthusiasts. The latest version, Distro Astro 2.0, is dubbed “Pallas.” It was released Nov. 20, 2013, at the South East Asian Young Astronomers Collaboration conference in Bandung, Indonesia. It is a major upgrade focusing on refinements for professional astronomers.

Voyager Live 13.10 Screenshot Tour

Voyager Live 13.10 has been released. Voyager Live is a Xubuntu-based distribution with a highly customised Xfce desktop and a large number of usability improvements. These include retractable dynamic panels, the Skippy “exposé” plugin, and the Slingscold launcher for starting applications. Also presented on the desktop are Plank, a configurable and responsive dock for launching programs, a much-improved “Box Wall” for changing themes on the four virtual desktops, an excellent backup utility called “Box Backup”, a new Conky control tool, and Startpages that allow to append applications and websites to any of the virtual desktops.

Video Review: Voyager 12.04

After reading a comprehensive review at dedoimedo.com on the latest release of Voyager 12.04 I decided to do a short video review of this Linux OS Distribution. I chose to install this distribution to my hard drive. I have always been a great fan of Xubuntu, so I was excited to see what Voyager would look like and compare it’s performance to Xubuntu.

Review: Voyager 12.04

As you know, I’m often leery about the respins and forks and pimped up versions of popular distributions, as they rarely meet the high standards they set for themselves, and rarely exceed the original, too. So, I’d like to see what Voyager 12.04 can do. All in all, the latest Xubuntu Pangolin is fairly good, and with some innocent aforementioned pimping, it can be made really great. Finally, since Voyager is a French product, I will try to insert silly French-sounding references throughout the review, so bear with me. Now, suivez moi.
