US Buyers Get Raw Deal on Galaxy S4 – Again

US, Canada and Sweden markets to get S4 packing Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 600 Processors and not the octa-core processor that other markets will be getting.

Last year, when Samsung launched their very successful Galaxy S3 smartphone, customers who were eagerly anticipating the smartphone in the US were very disappointed because the company decided that the US version of the S3 should have a 1.5 GHz dual core Snapdragon processor while the global version had a quad-core Exynos processor.  This was a huge disappointment to the US users who felt shortchanged that they would not get to try out the real power of a quad-core phone with such advanced features.

This time, US buyers will still not get a chance to experience the one-of-a-kind chipset in the market – an Exynos chipset!  The US version of S4 will be coming with a quad-core Snapdragon 600 processor and not Samsung’s in-house Exynos Octa which literally packs 8 power cores.  As a consolation, this time it is not the US buyers only that will be getting the quad-core S4; other countries in the ‘selected regions’ are Canada and Sweden.

The Snapdragon 600 processor is no weakling either, it is one beast of a chip if early benchmarks are anything to go by.  This processor has 4 Krait 300 cores with Adreno 320 graphics whereas the octa-core processor combines a Cortex-A7 and Cortex-A15 processors and a PowerVR SGX544MP3 graphics chip.

Even though the Snapdragon 600 chip is more powerful than any ordinary user could ever need on a smartphone, US users expected something more unique than the HTC One and the Sony Xperia Z which have the same processor.

Samsung’s next flagship smartphone was announced last week, and it is expected to enter the market towards the end of next month.  The official specifications of the device are yet to be announced but if this is the case, how will it impact Samsung’s market share in the US?  Let us know what you think in the comments section below.
